Review of Blood Diamond (2006) by Ru C — 03 Aug 2011
Blood Diamond is both a solid action thriller and a intriguing political drama. Politics have never been my speciality, but what makes this film so engaging is how well it is written. Next to The Last Samurai, this is one of Edward Zwick's best films.
He's definitely a great director, blending the perfect amount of convincing drama and brilliant action sequences. I guess the only thing I didn't like about the film (though that is big for me to say as I really loved this film) is Leonardo DiCaprio's accent.
Still, like Tom Cruise's accent in The Last Samurai, it's easy to overlook because of all the compelling performances. DiCaprio is superb, Jennifer Connelly is great, and Djimon Hounsou steals the show with his die-hard performance.
Overall, this is a great film in all aspects. Great storytelling, brilliant acting, and stunning action scenes. Sure it may feel boring at times to some, but this film is still really captivating. Blood Diamond is simply excellent.
