Review of Blood Diamond (2006) by Danny R — 27 Jul 2015
Edward Zwick's powerful intense action drama, that concerns Danny Archer, a mercenary, played marvelously by Leonardo DiCaprio, who earned a richly deserved Academy Award nomination for Best Actor, he learns that a poor fisherman named Solomon Vandy, played marvelously by Djimon Hounson, who delivers sensational performance, for which he received an Academy Award nominated for Best Supporting Actor, Vandy is a simple man that is separated from his family in Sierra Leone in 1997, who's life becomes a living hell after he has hidden a huge, extremely rare pink diamond, which Archer intends to find it, by any means necessary.
Terrific direction by Zwick, with strong performances from Jennifer Connelly, Arnold Vosloo, Kagiso Kuypers, Antony Colemen, and Benu Mabhena. The film has some memorable brutal action sequences with extreme carnage, they show in graphic detail the horrible toll in human life that 'conflict diamonds' cause.
An impressive and gripping motion picture. Highly Recommended.
