Review of Blood Diamond (2006) by Samitha G — 15 Mar 2013
While a tad too long, and some scenes dragged out for a few minutes more than needed to get their point across, Zwick's Blood Diamond is still a compelling and visceral look at the diamond trade in Africa, where violence and betrayal are the order of the day.
Strong performances, especially from Honsou as a struggling father, intense and raw action sequences that are immerisve thanks to tight editing, and the use of real African villages and towns give the film a greater realism and sharpness it would not have otherwise possessed.
