Review of Blood Creek (2009) by Bryon V — 18 Jan 2014
BLOOD CREEK...TOWN CREEK...Both are stupid names for a movie about a zombie-vampire Nazi that can be controlled through the use of ancient Germanic runes.
This movie might have actually been decent if not for the really stupid looking bad guy. I mean, had they replaced Fassbender with something actually SCARY LOOKING...like Doug Jones in the Fear Itself episode "Skin and Bones," then you might've had something fairly decent. Instead, we have a guy whose skin is kinda flaky...but otherwise unchanged after 70+ years...auditioning for a role in the next JEEPERS CREEPERS movie.
Furthermore, the history and religious symbolism is fairly laughable. I'm not 100% certain...but I sincerely doubt that the Vikings penetrated all the way to West Virginia...then carved elaborate rune-stones in a pattern that would look like a swastika from above. Come on. Besides, the swastika was of far less significance to the Vikings than they attempt to show in this movie...and the reasoning behind the Nazis appropriating the symbol had more to do with the now-debunked "Aryan Invasion Theory" regarding India.
Oh Joel Schumacher...how far the mighty have fallen...
