Review of Blood and Chocolate (2007) by Wynne L — 18 Dec 2008
So the critics give this movie 11%, with the supposed "top critics" 6%... and then they give 45%and 59% respectively to TWILIGHT?
I hate this planet so much right now. But what do I expect in a world where more people listen to Britney Spears than Led Zeppelin?
Don't expect this movie to be anything like the book, but if you take it for how it is, it's actually pretty great. For once, the woman is not a whiny "don't leave me, please I'll do anything, I have no personality I'm just here to look pretty and show cleavage" barnacle hanging on the arm of a supernatural guy; she is herself the supernatural being. To top that off, her love interest isn't a whiny barnacle either. They BOTH have personalities.
The movie is atmospheric, the plot moves at a fitting pace, the actors are all around quite good, and none of the 'villains' nor the heroes are perfectly bad or perfectly virtuous; they're quite (somewhat ironically) human. The transformation from human to wolf is very fluid, very beautiful. If you were looking for lots of gore, walk on, but if you're open minded and you like an eerie, tense, moody horror/romance theme which is not at all sappy or cheesy, then you will enjoy this movie.
