The place I get my used DVDs was having a special. Buy 3, get 2 free. I had "Blood and Donuts" at home so figured this would look good sitting beside it on the movie shelf. I took it as one of my freebies.

Surprise. It looked pretty good in the DVD player as well.

It's most definitely not a typical supernatural movie for this day and age. It's actually quite classy. This may explain why some viewers give it a thumbs down. While there are action sequences, it is not the driving force of this work. It's not all bared teeth on horrific-looking actors in 20 lbs of make-up. Don't think Michael Jackson in Thriller. Think more of Jacob Black in New Moon.

There are also other points that make me think of the Twilight series. In each case the lead character is a young female. Both are based on novels and are of the typical star-crossed-lovers variety. But B&C's novel pre-dates the other supernatural juggernaut by almost a decade.

Acting is decent throughout. Pacing is well linked and there are some beautiful visuals and special effects. A lot of effort went into making the actors believable as having canine blood. It shows.

I may have been expecting something a whole lot less out of this movie, but Blood and Chocolate was actually pretty sweet.
