Review of Blood and Bone (2009) by Greg D — 05 Jan 2010
A classic fight film brought into a modern urban setting. The martial arts choreography is shockingly good for an American film, and Michael Jai White is just as shockingly convincing performing it. And for all its modern sensibilities, this is a surprisingly traditional martial arts film, with a hero who is in no way reluctant, going to great lengths to do the right thing without thought of reward, and facing a villain who is a shadowy reflection of himself.
The final fight could have been a little more punishing on the hero, who just may be too much of a badass to generate tension. But the fights are so much fun to watch that it's forgivable.
