Review of Blood and Black Lace (1964) by John P — 06 Jul 2008
Absolutely excellent camerawork and superb design make up for a somewhat boring plot in this thriller that inspired a million slasher films in its wake. Bava's use of the camera is amazing, as is his usage of the colors, which are super-saturated, making the whole thing seem somewhat surreal.
I'd give it a higher score, but half the characters were people I cared little for, and in some parts, it drags on and on. That doesn't matter, really. When the murder is onscreen, you can't look away.
Worth seeing, I suppose, for history.
