Review of Blitz (2011) by Matt T — 20 May 2011
Well, we decided to see Blitz over a certain sequel to a sequel....to a sequel of a film based on a theme park ride.....and I think we made the right choice (I have Pirates 3 on Bluray - still in the wrapping....that's how keen I was to see the last film!).
Blitz is an in your face, violent thriller about a cop killer in London. It does star Mr Statham - who I admit I am not a fan of - but even I found a few of his one liners funny. Sample below:
Statham: What did the attacker look like?
Cop: She said he was big and white.
Staham: Good. At least we can rule out the kid from Different Strokes.
Ouch.
Be warned that this is an 18 film. To get an 18 certificate these days a film really has to push the boundaries. I did hear a few gasps from my fellow cinema goers during one particularly harrowing attack scene, so this definitely isn't for the faint hearted.
Best thing in it? Aiden Gillen. He has got away with playing different versions of his character Stuart Alan Jones from Queer As folk for years now, and yes this is another variation.....but it is a role he plays so well.
