Review of Blitz (2011) by Jamie J — 20 Aug 2011
This one probably won't sit well with a few people, Jason Statham's work can hardly be said to be very substantial if anything, and Blitz does very little to buck that trend. Featuring flashy camerawork, and a thumping soundtrack you could be forgiven for thinking this was an American take on the UK police force, trying to inject a sense of drama into the streets of Peckham.
However Blitz manages to overcome the general flashy presentation, and manages to be very entertaining, it's a unique take on the "whodunnit" situation, with a brazen and bold killer pretty much being revealed within the first twenty minutes, and certainly not even that far in if you have seen the trailers. The film instead switches focus onto other characters in the background every so often, it is just a pity that they seem to lack detail in the brief screen time they have.
Fear not if you are more of a fan of general arse kickery, the emotional parts don't last long. All in all you can do far worse than Blitz, flashy over the top arse kickery with enough depth and clever story telling to keep you enthralled, not to mention a thoroughly creepy and detestable villain should cover all bases.
