Review of Blitz (2011) by Daniel A — 07 Aug 2011
After the first 10 minutes I was ready to switch it off, after 20 minutes my interest was piqued, and by the 30 minute mark I was enjoying Blitz a lot more than I initially expected to. Granted the film is flawed; potentially interesting characters are massively underwritten (it would have been great to see the dynamic between Statham and Considine's officers further developed), and the already thin plot is forsaken in making the film essentially a Statham-schlockfest, but Blitz also has its positives.
A colourful villain for one thing, played by Aiden Gillen, brings some much-needed bite to the movie, while its unflinching violence and decent enough action should satisfy those who enjoy that type of thing.
Don't expect to be challenged in any way, but for a quick jolt of gritty London mass-murder you could do a lot worse.
