Review of Blindspotting (2018) by Mark F — 21 Jul 2018
There's different ways to measure great movies. For me, what makes this one great is that I left the theater with a different more enlightened view of the world than when I went in. There were many times when it looked like we were headed for a cliché, an easy way out - but then it took you off in a different direction, like a last-minute swerve on an amusement park ride.
From the poetic dialog and its delivery I ended up with a new realization that despite my comfortable sense of connection and community with anyone, you can never really understand what it's like be in the shoes of a different race, ethnicity, culture unless you have lived it.
I loved the innovation, the compassion over resignation, the humor in spite of the situation and the occasional discomfort of the whole thing. I don't know if there has been a movie like this before.
If this doesn't win a bunch of awards it will be a travesty. I'm sure I will watch it again many times. I loved it and those around me in the theater did too.
