Review of Blind Shaft (2003) by Alex H — 11 Feb 2009
The plot synopsis on FB has no relevance to this film. Grifters, maybe, your average Chinese Joe, more likely. For those of my friends in America, who are curious as to what real China is like, here is your film.
This is what I wake up to every day, except I am just an observer. If you want to understand why Chinese can produce products at such low costs, here is your film. Chinese government policy is simply, if you are killed in a mining accident, then the company must pay RMB 20,000 to the family.
That is true, and comes to around US $3,000. I can't comment on the acting, because my Chinese is not so good. The dialogue is very good. I thought the final image, which recalled the German concentration camps during WWII, says 'we live it every day here.
' Afterall,"China is short of everything, except people.".
