Review of Blind Date (1987) by Ben F — 26 Jun 2010
I don't see how anyone could like this movie on any level whatsoever. It's so unbelievably terrible, that it's tough to think of worse romantic comedies. "Blind Date" is atrocious.
Bruce Willis plays this workaholic who works for an executive guy or something, and he needs a date for the night so he gets Kim Basinger through his brother. It turns out she's ridiculous when she's wasted, so not only does Willis get fired, but a bunch of other stuff happens, and the whole movie is like a stupid wild ride. This has to be one of the most stupid premises. It leaves no room for anything to be entertaining. Maybe it would have been good if the cast was different but with Basinger and Willis? Are you freaking kidding me? Who casted these people?
This movie has some of the worst dialogue I have ever heard before. Some of the things that Kim Basinger says is just unbelievably stupid and annoying. That, mixed in with just all around terrible acting by everyone, doesn't really do good for the overall feel of the film. AHH! The acting sucks!
Don't even get me started on the execution of this film. Everything just feels either awkward or just plain stupid. Some scenes are so pointless, that I almost have a heart attack contemplating why some sequences were thrown in the film. A lot of the slapstick comedy that goes on just comes off as being stupid, and not funny, and sometimes just plain boring. The romantic elements that are supposed to be incorporated into the film are completely absent. All I see is a drunk woman and a pissed off guy talking to each other. And why the hell is he in love with her! 90 percent of the time they have talked to each other, she has been piss drunk! Whatever...I'm not going to waste my time questioning the stupid logic of this peace of trash movie.
"Blind Date" tried to go back to the roots of slapstick comedy but failed miserably. The acting is atrocious, the execution is silly, and the overall style of both romantic elements and humorous elements all seemed to be concocted by an 8 year old. What the hell? Why was this movie so bad? We'll never know...all I know is "Blind Date" was a mess.
