Review of Blended (2014) by Brooke S — 14 Mar 2018
Brooke Sloan 8th period MOVIE REVIEW.
The film blended is about 2 families who absolutely hate each other and want nothing to do with each other. They end up accidentally going on the same vacation together not knowing it. Throughout the film they slowly learn to love each other and be there for one another. In the film (Blended), the director attempted to show the audience that blood doesn't make a family, but love makes a family.I believe that the director was very successful at his attempt at showing this throughout the film. He used many examples in the movie by showing all different types of "blended" families throughout the film. This film shows the first hatred towards new families member and how they slowly end up loving each other. In this essay you will see many examples of how the author showed this claim throughout the film. This essay will show how characters in the movie show the love, how each family needs one another, and how blended families look in real life.
Throughout the movie, blended, you will see an African American bodybuilder singing the song blended. When the two families in the movie are fighting or working together the guy will show up and started singing, " blended they are blending". This character is an important part of this movie showing that blood doesn't make families. He shows up at the most random times but it's perfect for the movie. One example of when this happens is when Jim is wrestling with Brendan and he gets mad and tries to hit Jim, then the guy pops up in the background singing they are blending oh so blending.
During the film it shows in many different scenes where the couple need the other for the kids feminine and masculine needs. An example of this in the movie is where Jim is teaching Brendan how to play baseball because his father never taught him. Another example is when Hilary starts getting a crush, Lauren comes to her rescue and makes her look more feminine for her crush. During most of the film it shows how the couple need each other for their kids. It shows how girls need a woman and boys need a man in there life.
Throughout the film you see many different types of blended families. It shows stepkids blending together on a vacation. At the end of the movie it shows a slide show of blended families anywhere from half siblings to step siblings. During the film there is another couple who have 1 son but he is a stepson for the mom. It shows their family grow based on the other families growth with one another. This shows how you can be from two different families but still be a family together as long as you love each other. This clearly shows how blood doesn't make family. In society we judge blended families are broken families. This movie has showed people how "broken families" come together and make a new family.
Some people might argue that this movie was very racist. On the other hand this movie was set in Africa. In Africa there are only gonna be African Americans workers in a hotel. They have an African American gentleman following around the family singing the whole time in the movie. This was created for the humor of the audience because he would appear at the worst times in the movie. There are a lot of ways some people could interpret this movie, but the moral of the movie was never to be racist but show the world what a blended family really is. That is why they have pictures of blended families at the end of the movie.
Through the analysis of this film, it clearly shows through many examples that blood doesn't make a family, but that love makes a family. In paragraph one, it shows examples of how one character can help a family blended together despite their differences. This connects to the theme but showing a family growing together as they start to love one another. In paragraph two, it states how boys and girls need a masculine or feminine role model in their life. It is important because it shows how the family can connect back to the main theme of the movie, the need one another for the needs of their children. In paragraph three it talks about the way the movie uses pictures at the end of the movie to show many different examples of blended families. These pictures at the end of the movie show many different types of examples of how love makes family's. Your family will always love you for who you are even if you aren't their blood family. People are very quick to judge other people's families as "broken" or "damaged". Being from a blended family, is what makes people who they are and who they'll become.
