Review of Blended (2014) by Josh A — 26 Aug 2014
Not bad enough to be a typical (as of late) Sandler disaster (thanks to Sandler and Barrymore's chemistry) and not good enough to be memorable in any sort of way. I just got through watching the movie and it feels like I just got hit with a beam of light from one of those handheld tube things from the Men in Black movies that make you forget what just happened.
The one thing that definitely could've been improved on (not including being consistently funny, which it isn't) is the African setting. It felt more like Disney's Animal Kingdom rather than an actual place.
What else is there to say? The schmaltz gets a little heavy handed towards the end, and the laughs dry up a little before that, but what can I say? I didn't mind the film. Compared to what Sandler's put out lately, that's a sign of improvement. Compared to his late nineties comedies (including The Wedding Singer with co-star Drew Barrymore), it's quite the drop off.
