Review of Bleach (2018) by Danni M — 14 Sep 2018
Okay so, I've watched the anime and I hate being that guy who compares the movie to the original...
BUTTTTTTTTT I GUESS I HAVE TO BE THAT GUY.
First: the way they introduced Chad, in the FIRST TWO MINUTES OF THE MOVIE WHEN HE HAS ZERO PLACE IN BEING THERE YET.
Like, why? His introduction made no sense.
Second: the way Rukia completely ignores Ichigo in the beginning isn't even funny. Where's the kick? Where's the FUNNY parts that were actually funny in the original? It's so awkward and serious.
Third: in the anime, Rukia uses her Binding Spell on Ichigo early in the show, to show how Ichigo has stronger than normal Spiritual Power, he breaks out of it, using pure will power and strength, in the anime, he uses INTENSE spiritual force to break it (because he has no idea he has any to begin with so this was very tough). But IN THE MOVIE, he just INSTANTLY breaks free! Like, what? It wasn't even close to that easy...
Lastly: Rukia tells Ichigo that the Hollow is going AFTER HIM SPECIFICALLY in the movie, but in the anime, that's not true. Ichigo pretty much commits suicide to try and keep his sister's alive. Making him look stupid but already heroic from the start. But in the movie, Rukia tells him "You have a high Spiritual Pressure and this Hollow is going after you!".
It's just not the same. Why did they change so much already in the first ten minutes?
Also just maybe a small nitpick, but Ichigo's original sword is a huge buster sword type weapon, showing how he has a lot of power but has no way of controlling it, or using it for that matter. In the movie, it doesn't reflect that at all.
Just weak. Do better. Feels lazy, Netflix.
