Review of Blazing Saddles (1974) by Bob V — 24 Jul 2011
Mel Brooks' terribly vulgar spoof of Westerns seems just that on the surface: vulgar. But there's an array of truly funny & original content in there. "Blazing Saddles" , while still perhaps risquà (C) today, was groundbreakingly shocking in its racial humour at the time, and not always appreciated for it. It has its place in cinematic history if only for pioneering a brand of humour that didn't have a place in cinema until it came along. It holds the distinction of being named as the first mainstream film in which there was farting. Whether we are particularly happy about it or not, "Blazing Saddles" blazed a trail for many movie-makers & movie-goers, and changed the visage of film in no small way.
Fart.
