Review of Blazing Saddles (1974) by Russell G — 06 Dec 2011
This is a classic and one of my absolute favorite movies of all time. I love the combination of Mel Brooksâ(TM) comedy with great actors who make his writing sing. Cleavon Little & Gene Wilder have good chemistry, I loved Mel Brooks as the Mayor, Madeline Kahn is so funny; the entire cast is spot on.
The satirical, slapstick, & playful approach to the movie makes for one hilarious scene after another. It has a good pace and you do not have to wait long to laugh. There are tons of small rich little lines that make it good to watch over and over and it also has plenty of hard laughs that will get you every time.
The movie is quite clever as it makes insightful observations about stereotyping and racism but it does so in a light and funny way.
