Review of Blazing Saddles (1974) by Matthew G — 15 Nov 2012
A classic in every sense of the word. I only just recently saw this movie for the first time on Blu-Ray (in letterbox widescreen, too! I can't imagine watching it in pan-and-scan format), and I thought the movie was very funny, and as a Western/comedy hybrid I strongly feel that it works.
One of my favorite Mel Brooks movies alongside Young Frankenstein and Robin Hood: Men in Tights. Gene Wilder is hysterical as always, and I loved the director's cameo as the governor. A lot of the scenes and jokes are funny, Cleavon Little makes for a good lead character, and I enjoyed the size and scope of the movie.
The Western environment is effective, and I love how absurd it gets towards the last action scene. This movie was a real blast from beginning to end!
