Review of Blazing Saddles (1974) by Stan D — 22 Sep 2013
This is one of the all-time classic comedies, whose lines are often quoted and have become part of the lexicon. It is a spoof of western movies, and racism. It stars.
Cleavon Little as a black sheriff in an all-white western town and Gene Wilder as his gunfighter deputy. The bad guys are Harvey Korman, Slim Pickens, Madeline Kahn, and Mel Brooks. Alex Karras makes a memorable appearance as the now infamous Mongo. This is an unusual film that breaks all the rules, that remains controversial, and has many absolutely memorable, hilarious scenes. This is not really a comedy, but an epic farce. "You'd do it for Randolph Scott.".
