Review of Blazing Saddles (1974) by Michael F — 02 Oct 2013
Blazing Saddles has been on my list for a while. I turned it on ready to laugh my ass off. I wanted to turn it off near the halfway mark. The raunchy humor and satire seemed to pass me by. Some parts were enjoyable, but the dumb scenes and gags I had to suffer through were not worthwhile.
I particularly hated when the film would shift focus back on Hedley the attorney as I did not find him or his exploits amusing. I can praise it for being avant-garde. Walking into a theater to see how your own movie ends was clever.
And being able to poke fun at racism during a time when it was still prevalent in American society is a feat in itself.
