Review of Blazing Saddles (1974) by Christopher S — 08 Sep 2011
One of the funniest films I have ever seen, a classic that I can watch over and over again! The jokes are still fresh over thirty years after the film was first released, and that is saying a lot. Not only that, its main plot of destroying a small town for the railroad so that a new town could be created is not that far from actual American West history of the 19th century.
From how African Americans, Asians, and Irish were treated, Blazing Saddles got a lot of it right, which is a huge plus for me. I also feel that Brooks does not get the acclaim he rightly deserves because he makes satiric films instead of poignant dramas or character studies.
Blazing Saddles has stood the test of time and it deserves all five stars!
