Review of Blanche Fury (1948) by Jeff B — 01 Feb 2010
I saw this movie by accident, thinking I had rented a movie with a similar title, so when I put the movie on, I was literally expecting an entirely different movie. So going into this, I had no clue what this movie was and who was in it.
Well, it's a very nice movie, described as a gothic meldrama. It stars Valerie Hobson as the working title character who gets a job at her rich cousin's mansion. While there, she gets married to one of the heirs, but falls in love with one of the workers of the home, and true heir of the place, Philip (Stewart Granger).
It's a bit dark at times, with a family curse and Philip's obsession to own the mansion. The cinematography is very good as well as the score. It was a nice surprise.
