Review of Blame It on Rio (1984) by Steve H — 11 Oct 2010
"You only live once, but it does help if you get to be young twice".
I wondered why I had never heard of this film before, seeing as though it has Michael Caine as the lead at the height of his fame at that time of the 80's. Well now I know why it slipped under the radar, its not one of his strongest films of that era. But let me just mention that it is by no means terrible at all, it is definitely a film that kept my interest throughout. It's classified as a comedy, but I dont remember myself laughing once, its more of a light hearted drama. The concept of this film is a good one, and I would say that it worked to a degree. Though Michelle Johnson is appealing, I felt her speech delivery is too monotone, and a young Demi Moore has something really natural about her. Michael Caine, though not really stretching himself in this film, is a very appealing actor as always. This film does show its age, and I felt like it needed a jolt of electricity to make it spectacular.
