Review of Blame It on Fidel! (2006) by Mike M — 13 Oct 2007
Claude Miller's "L'Effrontee" remains the high watermark light comedy about what it means to grow up young, rebellious and French, but Gavras's film scores by encouraging her child performers to be themselves as much as possible.
Kervel, very clearly the one with all her own crockery at the opening tea party, has a steeliness that sees off sentimentality, and whole scenes are stolen by Benjamin Feuillet as the younger brother, a hyperactive pre-teen who treats the set as a personal playground, and can't go past a football without giving it a boot.
