Review of Blame It on Fidel! (2006) by Manuel C — 28 Jan 2008
This movie reminded me a lot of Juno. The main character is a sassy, smart girl (obviously a lot younger than Juno) with fairly well developed views on how the world should operate. As the movie progresses, you see the character growing up, struggling with her newfound circumstances, and finally adapting and moving on.
Both movies deal with thorny issues, yet they don't preach. In fact, both treat their subjects in ways that lead viewers to take a stand without overtly pushing them in one direction or the other.
Nina's performance is incredible. If you liked Juno, you'll probably will like this one.
