Review of Blame It on Fidel! (2006) by Pedro D — 19 Jan 2009
I love how this film lets me see--through a child's eyes--the agonizing challenge of conceptualizing abstract constructs and reconciling opposing experiences. The adults are dealing with these things too, but their political intensity is filtered through an innocent (albeit tightly woven) sieve (Anna's 9-yr old view) which lightens the fervor of the world issues (women's and Chilean liberation in the 60-70's) and lessens the ability to attach to them.
We are encouraged to suspend our judgment and instead journey with Anna to behold the dynamic experience of paradox.
