Review of Blair Witch (2016) by Rob D — 16 Sep 2016
Do not even bother with the audience score or tomatometer. The horror movie genre is my all time favorite and over the years I have watched and formed my own opinions about modern horror films. I have all but lost hope with horror movies since they all seem to revolve around the cheap and sickeningly predictable jump-scare.
That's how it always goes, tension rises for a few seconds and then boom! All the tension is instantly dissipates by the monster, ghost, killer, etc. loudly and suddenly coming into the picture. By the end of the movie I am so sick of being picked up for a few seconds and quickly let down that when the climax of the film comes along I am yawning and begging for this steaming pile of movie to end.
My favorite part of a vast majority of modern horror films is when the credits roll and I can leave. So when I saw the trailer for Blair Witch I thought "hey this looks good but I don't wanna get my hopes up only to be dramatically let down for the 100th time.
" Let me tell you, Blair witch was no contest the scariest movie I have ever seen in my life. They completely brought my faith and love for horror movies back to life! Once it took off, it kept its momentum and kept me on the edge of my seat for over an hour.
I felt I had become numb to horror movies after watching so many and watching them before bed, falling asleep to them without feeling stressed out in the slightest. But this...this was a game changer for me.
Everything was so well done. It kept me guessing, kept my heart pounding, got my mind racing and my spine tingling. A masterpiece in the horror genre, bravo!!! 10/10.
