Review of Blair Witch (2016) by Ryan F — 18 Sep 2016
Not that I expected a lot from this movie, but even with low expectations, it was pretty bad. It was, pretty largely , a wasted opportunity. It started off decently enough with James trying to find out what really happened to his sister & getting a group together to go into the woods to find her after seeing a film uploaded online that suggested she may still be alive. But once the search party enters the woods, the story breaks down and gets predictably stupid. After finding the house that "the witch" apparently lives in, James and Lisa enter the house and walk into their very predictable deaths. The movie keeps hinting at a witch with very little payoff and the movie ends with a horribly bad rip off of Cloverfield, but without the payoff - meaning Lisa is the last one left standing, but when she dies and then drops the camera, you never actually get to see the witch, unlike Cloverfield where you get to see the alien monster running off after a fresh kill.
If anyone is looking for a freaky movie to seat the theater, Don't Breathe is a far superior movie, Blair Witch is awful, and awful in the sense that Mike Nelson and his Mystery Science Theater crew could have a field day with this.
