Review of Blair Witch (2016) by Nick H — 20 Sep 2016
The funny thing about this is that I saw this movie 3 days earlier and am putting a review out a week later. I was super excited for this movie, I am not a big fan of The Blair Witch Project but I expected after 17 years and a bad sequel that they could improve on the story right? Right? Well, no, this is the same movie as the first one in many ways.
The movie itself is not terrible but it is not great. We go back into the Forrest to find Heather as her brother James goes with his friends to camp out in the Forrest and find the mysterious house the heather was last seen in.
This movie was sort of a snooze fest in the beginning and some of the middle, I remember looking at my girlfriend and saying "I could fall asleep." Then some something happens at it woke me up then something big happens and it sent the biggest chills I've had in since Conjuring 2 down my back, and those chills don't come easily.
I was really loving everything that was happening after that scene then the movie became the same thing as the first one and make me really upset with how it ended. The acting in this movie was actually really good, I bought a lot of their performances and I didn't think I would, sadly there is also stuff that happens and is never brought up again, also there is a drone camera in this movie that they never use and that was a shame.
Let's not forget the ridiculous amount of jump scares in this movie, not even good jump scares just loud noises and people jumping in front of cameras. Like why are you doing that? Why is this in the movie? Just stop! It doesn't work, it's not scary, it's annoying.
This year there has barely been any false jump scare movies and that's why this year has been great for horror and I think that studios are starting to see that. Thank God. Overall I'm very disappointed with this movie and I wish that they could've done more with it.
