Review of Blair Witch (2016) by Chris D — 22 Sep 2016
Blair Witch creators were obviously big fans of the original. This movie is a polished version to the original. Think evil dead vs evil dead 2. However, the creators did add something new by addressing fan theories, discontinuities, and plot holes in the original.
The nature of time, the weaknesses and strengths of the witch, and my favorite why arent there any roads to follow? Although adding these elements definitely enriches the Blair Witch mythos, I never felt like they were giving me everything, like wtf is with the lights? Thus keeping the whole movie suspenseful.
The acting in this movie felt less natural than the original which kept snapping me away from the reality of a found footage movie and made it feel more Hollywood. The camera angles and shots weren't nearly as dizzy as the original.
yet the number of them became distracting. I found myself consistently wondering who's POV I was seeing through even when there was action happening. Over all, it's an improvement over the previous movies but it definitely lost the style of a faux documentary.
