Review of Blair Witch (2016) by Richard S — 10 Jul 2017
The original Blair Witch Project movie came bundled with a lot of hype which it failed to live up to in my opinion. It was ok and it started the trend for found footage movies which has led to some inventive uses of the technique and some truly terrible films.
There were a couple of scares in the original but it was very far removed from my top 10 horror movies. Then came an even worse sequel called Book of Shadows and now we have this one which is simply called Blair Witch.
It claims to be a sequel to the first movie as brother of one of the original characters struggles to discover the truth about his sister's disappearance some 15 years earlier. However, it is so similar to The Blair Witch Project that it feels like a remake, only one of those remakes that wasn't worth doing because they've done nothing new or exciting with the material.
There is one good scene that will make you feel claustrophobic even if you don't suffer but the rest of the movie is a bunch of people running and screaming in the dark, leaving the viewer to wonder just what is going on.
