The movie sucked just like everyone thought it would - better cover up the terrible writing by backtracking on the story. This is exactly what the writer did; instead of showing some integrity and standing by the poor attempt at portraying the actual Blair Witch entity, he came up with a lame cover story once this movie tanked.
The original was a one-hit-wonder and dumb old Hollywood thinks they can still get rich off of it. This is why piracy is rife.
