Review of Blair Witch (2016) by Movie M — 17 Jul 2017
"Blair Witch" is the 3rd instalment in the Blair Witch series, and although it was probably the best out of all 3 movies, it still doesn't pass as an enjoyable horror film. This movie doesn't get good until the last 20 minutes or so, and the first hour is just incredibly boring.
At least they made an effort to make it more entertaining than the 1999 film, by sprinkling in some scary bits throughout the first hour of the movie, but there was nothing that really phased me at all from those bits.
When the movie finally did reach the last 20 minutes, that's when it took off, those 20 minutes were by far the best 20 minutes in the entire Blair Witch franchise, however by that point it was too little too late.
A lot of people were thinking that this would just be a carbon copy of the 1999 "The Blair Witch Project", which in many ways it was, this movie didn't really do much to try and convince the audience that they actually changed things in the script, it's still a bunch of people headed into the woods with cameras trying to find the witch, literally the exact same plot of the first film.
Although there were some new and pretty exhilarating things that happened, again, in the last 20 minutes of the movie, the main gist of the movie was the exact same as the first one. If you're looking for a thrilling, engaging horror movie that will scare the crap out of you, I would definitely not recommend this movie, as the majority of this movie is just lead-up and just a bunch of rubbish that no one cares about.
"Blair Witch", although the best in the trilogy, is definitely not worth watching.
