Review of Blade: Trinity (2004) by Sheila N — 15 Feb 2010
I didn't think that Blade Trinity measured up to the first two Blade films. It starts off in a strong fashion, but I think that this film really suffers from a lack of a strong villain. Dracula may have made a good villain, but he felt watered down.
There wasn't enough effort put into making him a larger-than-life, super threat to all human life. Also, Dominic Purcell didn't really give a very evil performance. Parker Posey also didn't seem like a credible villain either.
Her character seemed whiny and incompetent and left me wondering how she's leading a bunch of vampires. (I did like Triple H's portrayal as a fairly comedic henchman, but that's not the kind of role you'd expect to carry the bad-guy part of the film.
) I also was not totally thrilled by the "Nightstalkers". I did like the addition of Ryan Reynolds to the cast, and the idea of Whistler's daughter. However, I thought that the rest of the team was undersold and did not get enough screen time and character development to make me really care about them.
Plus, they're equipment started getting a little too science-fictiony for me, compared to Blade's slightly more reality based arsenal. Overall, it's still a decently entertaining movie, but lacking in comparison to the other Blade Films.
