Review of Blade Runner 2049 (2017) by Tal G — 08 Apr 2018
He's done it, the madman nailed another amazing movie.
Thank god for Denis Villeneuve.
This movie worked so well for me. The soundtrack was incredibly enveloping and in tune with the Blade Runner world, the sound design was very creative and meaningful from a worldbuilding perspective, the gorgeous moody cinematography, the fantastic acting from basically every single character we met. Just all around beauty.
I wanted this movie to just go on and on and on, even during the slower parts when I was tempted to wish for them to have been trimmed or edited out. In the end, I'm glad it went on for as long as it did. It was an absolute pleasure to breathe the Blade Runner universe once again.
The story they came up with for this sequel was just masterful. Such a good job with not going overboard or alternatively, giving us something underwhelming. They gave us something just right. With intricacies, with very interesting character arcs, with tons of room for discussion and debate. I'm thankful that the team behind this movie respected the fans enough to put this much genuine and heartfelt effort into it.
Again, I leave another Villeneuve movie feeling incredibly excited for his next project. This man is unbelievably consistent.
