Review of Blade Runner 2049 (2017) by Nick V — 28 Jan 2018
As a massive Blade Runner fan, I had serious reservations about a sequel to what I believe is one of the best films ever made. The deft hand of Denis Villeneuve gave me everything that I wanted and so much more with Blade Runner 2049.
Harrison Ford gives one of his all-time best performances along with great work by Ryan Gosling, the haunting Jared Leto, and the surprisingly endearing Ana de Armas. Roger Deakins' cinematography is jaw-droppingly beautiful and expands on the immersive world created by Ridley Scott in 1982.
The film pays homage to the original while telling its own complete story in a narratively satisfying way. The 164 minute run time feels half that and left me feeling just as satisfied as the original does.
Without a doubt my favorite film of 2017. 10/10.
