Review of Blade Runner 2049 (2017) by Joseph S — 07 Jan 2018
On every technical level imaginable, Blade Runner soars. The acting is uniformly great, the slavish devotion to the concept of thought provoking science fiction instead of the typical slam-bang action packed thrill ride. Blade Runner 2049 isn't that type of movie.
Unfortunately, it trades the somber noir aesthetic of a simple detective story for the complex trappings of a conspiracy and an explosive societal revolution. Despite lots of replicants, spinners, and stunning cityscape shots, this doesn't feel quite like Blade Runner. Thankfully, it does feel like Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep.
