Review of Blade Runner 2049 (2017) by Sandro R — 02 Jan 2018
Humanity remains at the core of this epic dystopian masterpiece, which builds on the original and actually overtakes it in scope and quality. It's a beautiful film, loud and spectacular but also quiet and subtle at all the right moments. Gosling and Ford are great, and yet the film doesn't rely on the latter's presence.
It's one of the greatest sequels of all time because it can actually stand on its own, it doesn't rely on nostalgia and it's not interested in setting up another sequel or a cinematic universe. In 2017, this is refreshing and something to be admired.
