Review of Blade Runner 2049 (2017) by Daniel L — 04 Nov 2017
This cyberpunk dystopian film noir has it all. A great plot, suspense, interesting characters, visual aesthetics, and intellectual depth. It combines philosophical themes from movies such as "Children of Men, Her, Ex Machina, Ghost in the Shell, and Pinocchio (that's right)".
This sequel of a 80's cult film defies the common fate of most sequels - sophomore slump. It succeeds so well in its intended endeavors that it make the first movie relevant again. It may not have been a box office hit, but as we continue live in a more technology-laden world and continue to not only understand, but control our own human biology and thus struggle with the ethical and philosophical implications, movies such as this will no doubt resonate with a greater audience.
I am looking forward to seeing the next installment of this franchise.
