Review of Blade Runner 2049 (2017) by Imthenoob — 10 Nov 2017
I like the cast, I think Gosling really shines here and seeing Ford again was awesome. I think the introduction was great but everything after that is just so...eh. They tried too hard pushing a red herring twist on us that was predictable from the jump. And the painfully slow first half isn't really saved with the action packed second. I found it rather boring to sit through and the film did very little to keep my interest. Especially when most of it was needless filler that tried too hard to push the visual aspect of the film instead of giving us quality story telling.
Just for an example: Gosling's character introduces us to a hologram/AI in his apartment that acts as a wife of sorts. He finally gets a device that makes her mobile as formerly she could only stay in the apartment. He uses this to bring her places and her only actual use was explaining an old memory to him, One that he told her countless times and yet he seemingly just forget. So in total, They wasted a good 10-15 minutes of the run time to introduce this painfully minor character just to explain on thing Gosling's character could have just remembered sitting there in the chair. That entire sequence was so needless and honestly felt like it was just made to show off the visuals of the film.
