Review of Blade Runner 2049 (2017) by Tracy F — 15 Nov 2017
The film was amazingly visual, a great ride in the action and thrills department. It's hard not to compare it with the original, though, and unfortunately this remake could not stand up to the first Blade Runner.
I loved 2 things about the first one that I did not find in the second: 1 - Harrison Ford's emotional portrayal of Deckerd, the pain he felt for the plight of the replicants, and the love he had for Rachel really moved me.
I thought Gosling's performance was wooden in comparison. Also, in the old version, I liked the menace that the "bad" replicants evoked, their cold-blooded willingness to murder--that seen in the engineer's house with all of the replicant "toys" was thrilling.
The new version didn't have that same sense of menace.
