I did not like the original. I felt it was slow, too artsy, and overrated. Welp. So was it's sequel. So, why the 5 stars? Because while 2049 is also slow, artsy, and highly rated... it's perfect in everything it tries to do.
And does a beautiful job at building on the original (it did what TRON 2 did, even better. An equal to ALIENS when rating sequels). It's a masterpiece. From the soundtrack to the visuals to the plot to the complexities.
It's a deep movie with great dialogue & balance. Bravo. PKD would be proud.
