How can you top a classic masterpiece?
You can't. Blade Runner 2049 makes some admirable attempts, but just falls short.
Scenes are unnecessarily too long and drawn out. The movie has you hoping for the main character to be what you'd hope he'd become, only to have him provide an outcome that doesn't really serve or explain the plot sufficiently enough, nor provide the bang of an outcome it tries to build towards.
It's better than Valerian, that's for sure, but 2 stars shy of its predecessor.
