Review of Blade Runner 2049 (2017) by Stuart M — 10 Oct 2017
The word that kept popping in to my mind during this movie was PONDEROUS. I had flashbacks to the first Star Trek movie where there were super long shots of faces that were supposed to raise tension but just became boring.
There are some neat visual effects here but the movie completely lacks nuance. The musical score, if it can be called that, is muddy and at times glaringly loud. Most scenes are drawn out making the movie unnecessarily long.
The scenes with Mr Walllace are distracting, as are those where K is being "baselined". Overall a klunky mess with attempts to replicate elements of the first movie - Dekard falls for a replicant whereas K falls for a hologram - Rutger dies feeling raindrops whereas K dies feeling snowflakes.
Cannot recommend at all for those who ar fans of the original.
