Review of Blade Runner 2049 (2017) by Stephen K — 10 Oct 2017

This is close to the worst film ever made. Nothing about is interesting or engaging. The sets are drab and featureless; as if made by children using reject Lego. It?s mostly grey and from the air. There is no life in it.

All the characters, including Gosling and his single syllable boss played by a robotic Robyn Wright are born or created with, literally, no personality or soul. The plot is a joke and completely impossible.

The main premise would not convince a 5 year old of its authenticity. The action is drab and takes place in single rooms or cabins where virtually nothing happens. There is no grandeur. There are some scenes where Gosling just sits and walks slowly for 5/10 minutes through sets with virtually nothing in them.

By halfway through anyone with any sense, intelligence or lust for life will just get depressed. The soundtrack contains no music, just a cacophonous hateful dirge. Like the noise of the mechanised rubbish dump from which this crass and boring film was born and should die.

The lowest point is half an hour of an orange dead Las Vegas type city where all the statues are giant naked women in high heels. There is also a sickening sexist agenda here. All women are either dead or bad or prostitutes or holograms who are created only to cook for and have sex with men.

It is not political or sociological commentary; it is just old fashioned misogyny. You thought Alien Prometheus was bad? See this and weep.
