Review of Blade Runner 2049 (2017) by Joe K — 05 Oct 2017
The in depth layers you would expect from something Ridley has a hand in.
While visually stunning just like the first movie it does not rely on the special effects to grasp you. It does use the scenery to move scene to scene and almost let you rest after you think and compute the meaning of the dialogue. And you will need that space to feel un-rushed in your thoughts. This movie is not a copy of the first but an actual sequel with lots of questions of many moral and ethical kinds. The movie does have an end that is a conclusion.
Ryan impressed me with his demeanor in this film as well as all the cast that played their role very well. I did find either the motivations or the acting of the of the antagonist a bit flimsy.
There really are few movies that are visually stunning and have actual substance between effects. I find that I will have to watch this movie again to find more things I missed and will need to hear the note on the director's cut.
Long movie, don't drink too much soda or your bladder won't last.
Impressive!
