Review of Blade Runner 2049 (2017) by Olivia W — 05 Oct 2017
Just recently came back from seeing this movie on opening night. Since I was a kid bladerunner was one of my favorite movies, although when I first saw it, very much of the dialogue and thematic elements went entirely over my head.
What had stuck with me as a child that made it a memorable movie for me was the mesmerizing atmosphere and soundtrack, and how real the characters felt (and I had a huge crush on Harrison Ford, but that's not relevant to this).
Bladerunner 2049 did not let me down. It was visually stunning, unique, intriguing, and the acting was completely phenomenal. It re-opens the world of the original bladerunner and it captures a similar essence while being an entirely different movie.
Seeing a movie I love get further story expansion was exciting enough for me, this movie went above my expectations. It's not without its plot flaws, and it left me with feeling there were still loose ends and questions to be answered, but these were only minor issues for me and it didn't take away from how much I enjoyed this movie.
I mostly see people whining about length, so i'll go ahead and say that some people can handle lengthy movies with dedication to details and emotional portrayal, while others cannot. If length and "drawn out scenes" is going to keep you from enjoying a movie then go watch a Michael Bay film, because this is probably not your style.
As someone who loves experiencing movies, I didn't feel bored for one second of this film. Me and my boyfriend both agreed that never before had we been so enraptured in a movie we saw in theatres.
I'm excited to get to watch it again when I take my dad to see it.
