Review of Blade Runner 2049 (2017) by Mikkel R — 09 Feb 2018
While I love the first movie, it was not without it's flaws but it was and still is one of the most intelligent science fiction movies ever. The sequel took all the best parts of the first one, in particular the very ambitious themes of humanity and what defines real life, and elevates them to the next level and widens the whole perspective in terms of both the thought-provoking, complex thematic elements and the stunning visual palette.
Its a long movie, sure. But I would rather have a artful creation that takes its time to tell a strong story than a rushed experience that leaves less of an impact to absorb afterwards.
I do wish they would have gotten someone else than Ryan Gosling. The man plays stone-cold characters well because he is unable to convey any emotions with his face in every single movie I've watched with him in it.
